Egypt seizes explosives near Gaza

Security forces in Egypt say they have found one tonne of explosives near the border with the Gaza Strip. They say the explosives were to be smuggled into Gaza.

The discovery comes as Egyptian forces are looking for militants suspected of plotting a suicide attack against Israeli tourists in a Red Sea resort.

Several suspects have been arrested in the Sinai Peninsula this week - including a Palestinian who police say had explosives strapped to his body.

In the past three years, suicide attackers have killed dozens in Sinai resorts, including Sharm el-Sheikh and Taba.

Egypt has linked Palestinian militants to some of the attacks.

Israel has accused Egypt of not doing enough to stop the smuggling of weapons into Gaza, particularly through tunnels.
